PARENTS MUST SHARE THE BLAME FOR JUVENILE CRIME IN WEST RIDING
2,071 offences by under 17s
Parents must bear their share of the blame for the large number of juvenile offenders today, said Mr G. Raymond Hinchcliffe, QC, opening the West Riding Quarter Sessions at Wakefield. It was reported by the Chief Constable of the West Riding that from January 1 to November 30 last year, 2071 offences were committed by persons under 17.
Experience showed that many parents did not sufficiently interest themselves in the way their children were spending their leisure hours until an offence had been committed and the probation officer was inside the house, he (Hinchliffe) said.
